| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays the dynastic tamgha of Samarqand positioned to the left of the unperforated central area, with a secondary auxiliary tamgha symbol to the right. The tamgha, serving as the royal dynastic emblem of the Ikhshidid rulers of Samarqand, is rendered in low relief against a plain, unadorned field. No inscriptions appear on the reverse. The cast surface exhibits heavy patination and corrosion consistent with the coin's age and burial history. |

Samarqand in this decade was caught between two worlds — the Sogdian merchant princes who had ruled the Zeravshan valley for centuries and the advancing Umayyad armies pushing northeast from Khorasan. Tarkhun, the ikhshid of Samarqand, briefly negotiated submission to the Umayyads around 706–707 before his own nobility deposed and killed him for it. These bronzes belong to that turbulent window of nominal independence.
The absence of a central hole distinguishes this from related Sogdian issues and remains a point of ongoing discussion among specialists working from the Smirnova corpus.
