1 Cash - Tangguo Tongbao, Seal script, with dot

The Southern Tang issued the Tangguo Tongbao during the reign of Li Yu, the last ruler of the kingdom, whose court is better remembered for poetry and painting than fiscal management. By 959, the Southern Tang had already ceded its northern territories to the Zhou dynasty and was paying annual tribute — the coinage circulated within a shrinking, tributary state with fewer than three years of independence remaining before Song conquest in 975.

The dot variety catalogued by Hartill as 15.81 distinguishes this piece from the more common dotless reverse, a minor die feature that has proven consistent enough to warrant separate attribution.
