Additional information

The Southern Tang was among the more culturally sophisticated of the Ten Kingdoms, but by 959 its political situation was terminal. Ruler Li Yu — better remembered as a poet than an administrator — was presiding over a state already hemorrhaging territory to the expanding Song. The Tangguo Tongbao issues belong to this final phase, struck as the dynasty's remaining heartland shrank to little more than the Jiangnan region before Song forces completed the conquest in 975.

Hartill 15.93 distinguishes this regular script variety from the running-script version, the two being products of the same brief window of issue.
