| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised rim on both inner and outer edges, characteristic of traditional Chinese cast coinage. Four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order (top, bottom, right, left) around the central hole, reading 太平聖寶 (Taiping Shengbao, meaning 'Heavenly Peace Sacred Currency'). The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in raised relief against a flat field. The outer rim is broad and slightly irregular, consistent with sand-cast production. The coin exhibits typical casting granularity on the surfaces. |
