| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin of standard Ming Dynasty type, featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order — top, bottom, right, left — around a central square hole. The legend reads 泰昌通寶 (Taichang Tongbao), denoting the Taichang reign title and the term for universal currency. The raised characters occupy the four quadrants of the inner field, separated by the square perforation and four plain inner rims. The coin displays a broad, flat outer rim framing the entire design. |
