Additional information

Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, who ruled Travancore from 1829 to 1847, is remembered as much for his Carnatic compositions as for his administration — he produced over 400 musical works and corresponded with scholars across South Asia. Coinage under his reign continued the small-module copper cash tradition that Travancore had maintained for generations, with the British Resident exercising increasing influence over fiscal affairs as the kingdom's subsidiary alliance with the East India Company deepened through the 1830s.
