| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four bold Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform fashion and read top-to-bottom, right-to-left. The legend 順治通寶 (Shunzhi Tongbao) fills the four quadrants around the central hole, with 順 (Shun) at the top, 治 (Zhi) at the bottom, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left. The characters are raised in high relief against a flat, recessed field, exhibiting the clean, authoritative brushstroke style characteristic of early Qing imperial coinage. A plain, raised rim encircles the design, and the fields show the dark patination typical of cast brass cash coins of this period. |
