| Obverse description | Central square hole (穿) surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional reading order — top, bottom, right, left — reading 順治通寶 (Shunzhi Tongbao), meaning 'Circulating Treasure of the Shunzhi reign'. The characters are rendered in regular script (楷書) and cast in moderate relief against a flat, unadorned field. A plain raised rim encircles the design, and the inner rim bordering the square hole is likewise raised and well-defined. The casting exhibits the characteristic style of early Qing dynasty cash coinage. |
