| Reverse description | Central square perforation flanked by Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) arranged around the hole within a raised inner and outer rim. To the right of the hole appears the character 一 (Yi, meaning 'one'), and to the left the characters 厘 (Li, a unit of weight) and 原 (Yuan, abbreviated mint name for Taiyuan), together reading 'Yi Li Yuan' — denoting the coin's official weight standard of one li (one-thousandth of a liang of silver) and identifying the Taiyuan Mint as the place of issue. The casting is firm and legible, consistent with regulated provincial mint output of the Shunzhi period. |
