The legend reads 紹興元寶 (Shaoxing Yuanbao), referencing the Shaoxing reign era (1131–1162) of Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty. The characters are boldly rendered with well-defined strokes, set within a plain raised inner rim encircling the square hole and an outer raised rim defining the coin's periphery.
