Four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform reading order around the central perforation: 紹 (Shao) to the upper right, 熙 (Xi) to the lower right, 元 (Yuan) to the lower left, and 寶 (Bao) to the upper left, together forming the reign-era inscription 紹熙元寶 (Shaoxi Yuanbao). The characters are boldly cast with confident brushwork typical of Southern Song imperial coinage. The flat field between the inner and outer rims is unadorned. |
