| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim, with four Chinese seal-script (zhuanshu) characters arranged in cruciform reading order around the central hole: 紹 (above), 聖 (right), 元 (below), 寶 (left), together forming the reign title and denomination legend 紹聖元寶 (Shaosheng Yuanbao). The characters are rendered in elegant, rounded seal script typical of Northern Song dynasty cast coinage. The coin is bounded by a raised circular outer rim, with a flat, undecorated field between the legend and the rim. |

| Reverse description | Plain reverse field with a central square perforation enclosed by a raised square inner rim and a raised circular outer rim. A single small raised dot is present in the field between the inner square rim and the outer circular rim, serving as a mint or batch identification mark; its precise position — above, below, or to either side of the central hole — varies by issuing mint. The field is otherwise entirely blank and undecorated. |
