| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin featuring four Chinese ideograms in cursive running script (xingshu), arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation, read clockwise from top: 紹 (Shao), 元 (Yuan), 寶 (Bao), 聖 (Sheng). The characters are bold and fluid, characteristic of the calligraphic style favored during the reign of Emperor Zhezong. A plain raised rim encircles the coin, and the square central hole is bordered by a slightly raised collarette. |
