| Obverse description | Cast round cash coin with a central square perforation. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left: 光 (Quang) at top, 中 (Trung) at bottom, 通 (Thông) at right, and 寶 (Bảo) at left, together forming the reign legend 'Quang Trung Thông Bảo,' meaning 'Universal currency of the Quang Trung era.' The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat field, with no additional decorative elements. The rim is plain and slightly raised. |
