Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by a double inner rim, with four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) disposed in the four quadrants reading top-to-bottom, right-to-left: 光中通寶 (Quang Trung Thông Bảo). The characters occupy the fields between the central perforation and the double outer raised rim, which is a distinguishing feature of this variety. The casting is typical of Vietnamese cash coinage of the late eighteenth century, with moderately bold relief and a slightly granular surface texture.
