| Obverse lettering | 慶 寶 元 通 (Translation: Qing Yuan Tong Bao Qingyuan (1st era of Ningzong, 1195-1200) / Universal currency) |
| Reverse description | The reverse is largely plain, featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a square inner rim and a plain outer rim. A single Chinese character, 五 (Wu, meaning 'five'), is cast in raised relief in the lower field below the central square hole, indicating this coin was issued in the fifth year of the Qingyuan era (1199). The remaining fields above and to the sides of the hole are blank. The surface shows heavy green cuprite and malachite patination typical of excavated Southern Song bronze cash. |
