Beschrijving voorzijde Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole, surrounded by a plain raised inner rim and a broader outer rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the four quadrants reading clockwise from top: 清 (Qīng), 寧 (Níng), 通 (Tōng), 寶 (Bǎo), forming the reign-era legend 'Qīngníng Tōngbǎo'. The characters are well-formed and boldly cast, set within a flat, unadorned field. The coin conforms to the standard Northern Song and Liao cash format, with neat rims framing the inscription on both the inner and outer edges.

Aanvullende informatie

The Qingning reign period belonged to Emperor Daozong, the longest-reigning Liao emperor, who took the throne at eighteen and ruled for nearly half a century. His reign saw the Liao dynasty at a cultural and administrative peak — Daozong was a committed Buddhist and sponsored large-scale temple construction — but also marked the beginning of the internal decay that would accelerate under his successors. Qingning Tongbao issues are among the more consistently encountered Liao cash types, though the dynasty's non-Han minting infrastructure means die workmanship varies considerably across the series.
