| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a plain raised rim on both inner and outer edges. Four Chinese clerical-script characters arranged in cruciform reading order — top, bottom, right, left — forming the legend Qianyuan Zhongbao. The characters are boldly cast in relief within the broad flat field, exhibiting the characteristic rectilinear strokes of Tang-dynasty clerical script. The overall design is spare and authoritative, consistent with official Tang imperial coinage. |

| Reverse description | Plain field with a central square hole flanked by raised inner and outer rims, bearing a single cast auspicious cloud motif (ruyi cloud) positioned at various locations relative to the square hole depending on the variety — either above or below the hole, with the tail oriented accordingly. The reverse is otherwise uninscribed, with the cloud serving as the sole decorative and mint-identifying device. The casting quality and placement of the cloud vary by issuing mint. |
