Reverse description Plain field with a central square hole flanked by raised inner and outer rims, bearing a single cast auspicious cloud motif (ruyi cloud) positioned at various locations relative to the square hole depending on the variety — either above or below the hole, with the tail oriented accordingly. The reverse is otherwise uninscribed, with the cloud serving as the sole decorative and mint-identifying device. The casting quality and placement of the cloud vary by issuing mint.
