| Obverse description | Cast round coin with a central square hole, surrounded by a raised inner rim and an outer border. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central perforation, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 乾元重寶 (Qianyuan Zhongbao). The characters are boldly rendered in relief within the fields, with the strokes showing typical casting definition of the Five Dynasties period. |
