Obverse description Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation, featuring four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole. The reign title reads clockwise from top: 乾 (Qian) at top, 隆 (Long) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bao) at left, forming the imperial legend 'Qianlong Tongbao' (Qianlong's Universal Currency). The characters are bold and well-formed, raised in relief against a flat field, with a plain outer rim encircling the design.
