| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin with a central square perforation, featuring four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole. The reign title reads clockwise from top: 乾 (Qian) at top, 隆 (Long) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bao) at left, forming the imperial legend 'Qianlong Tongbao' (Qianlong's Universal Currency). The characters are bold and well-formed, raised in relief against a flat field, with a plain outer rim encircling the design. |

| Reverse description | Plain flat field divided by the central square perforation, bearing two Manchu script characters in raised relief, one on each side of the hole, reading vertically. The character 'Boo' (ᠪᠣᠣ) appears to the left and 'Chang' (ᠴᠠᠩ) to the right, together identifying the Nanchang (Chang) mint. The characters are cast in the cursive Manchu style typical of Qing dynasty provincial cash coinage, set within a plain outer rim. |
