| Beschrijving keerzijde | Uniface reverse with no inscriptions, devices, or decorative elements. The plain field surrounds a central square perforation and is bounded by a raised outer rim, consistent with standard Vietnamese cash coinage of the Trần dynasty. The surface exhibits heavy green and brown patination with areas of cuprite, attesting to the coin's age and burial history. |

Nguyên Phong was the reign title of Trần Thái Tông, the first emperor of the Trần dynasty, who held power during one of the most consequential periods in Vietnamese history — the first Mongol invasion of Đại Việt in 1258. The running script (thảo thư) calligraphy distinguishes this type from the more common standard-script issues catalogued by Toda, and points to a separate casting run rather than a stylistic accident. Toda 17 is among the scarcer attributions in the early Trần sequence.
