The Nawabs of Arcot occupied an increasingly precarious position across this coin's century-long production window — nominally Mughal suzerains, then clients of the French, then effectively subordinate to the East India Company after Clive's campaigns in the Carnatic. The Company eventually absorbed the Nawabi's monetary functions entirely, and issues like this one were progressively displaced by EIC copper.
KM#34 saw remarkably little standardization across its run. Striking quality and flan preparation varied considerably by decade and mint location within the Carnatic, making die attribution a persistent problem for specialists.
