| Obverse description | Cast copper cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a plain raised rim on both inner and outer edges. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 明 (Minh), 德 (Đức), 通 (Thông), 寶 (Bảo). The characters are rendered in bold relief within a plain, unadorned field, consistent with Vietnamese cast coinage of the late eighteenth century. |
