Kiến Trung was the reign title of Trần Thái Tông, the first emperor of the Trần dynasty, who came to power in 1225 after the Trần clan engineered the abdication of the last Lý ruler — a seven-year-old girl — through a forced marriage. The transition was a dynastic coup dressed as a succession, and the new cash coinage was among the earliest instruments used to signal legitimacy across the realm.
