| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order around the hole. The four-character legend 康熙通寶 (Khang Hi Thông Bảo) is disposed top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the fields: 康 (Kāng) at top, 熙 (Xī) at bottom, 通 (Tōng) at right, and 寶 (Bǎo) at left. The characters are rendered in a somewhat irregular, provincial style consistent with an unofficial Vietnamese cast imitation rather than an official Qing imperial issue. The flat fields show no decorative rim embellishment beyond a plain raised border. The overall execution reflects the characteristically rough casting quality associated with Vietnamese imitative cash coinage. |
