| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order around the hole. The four-character legend 康熙通寶 (Khang Hi Thông Bảo) is disposed top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the fields: 康 (Kāng) at top, 熙 (Xī) at bottom, 通 (Tōng) at right, and 寶 (Bǎo) at left. The characters are rendered in a somewhat irregular, provincial style consistent with an unofficial Vietnamese cast imitation rather than an official Qing imperial issue. The flat fields show no decorative rim embellishment beyond a plain raised border. The overall execution reflects the characteristically rough casting quality associated with Vietnamese imitative cash coinage. |

| Reverse description | Plain reverse field with a central square perforation and minimal casting detail visible. Two characters appear in the fields flanking the square hole: the Manchu script character ᡤᡠᠸᠠᠩ to the left and the Chinese character 廣 (Guǎng, abbreviation for Guangdong/Guangzhou) to the right, indicating the Guangzhou mint attribution of the prototype Qing coin. The rendering of the Manchu script is notably crude and simplified, consistent with a Vietnamese unofficial imitation produced by craftsmen unfamiliar with the Manchu writing system. A plain raised border frames the reverse. The overall surface shows a mottled grey-brown patina typical of cast brass. |
