Reverse description The reverse features two mint-identification characters flanking the central square hole: to the left, the Manchu script rendering of 'Siowan' (ᠰᡳᡠᠸᠠᠨ), read vertically, and to the right, the corresponding Chinese character 宣 (Xuān), identifying the Xuanhua Garrison Mint. Both characters are cast in raised relief against a flat, unadorned field, with a plain raised rim. This bilingual Manchu-Chinese convention is standard for Qing dynasty provincial cash coinage of the Kangxi reign.
