Obverse description Cast brass cash coin with a central square hole, bearing four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the perforation. The reign title reads top-to-bottom, right-to-left: 康 (Kāng, top), 熙 (Xī, bottom), 通 (Tōng, right), 寶 (Bǎo, left), forming the legend 'Kangxi Tongbao' (Kangxi Universal Currency). The raised characters stand within a plain inner rim, itself enclosed by a broader outer rim, all typical of Qing dynasty cast coinage. The field between the legend strokes is flat and unornamented.
