The "Gi" or "Ji" mint mark on this cash places production at the Jiliao (薊遼) military supply bureau, one of several Board of Revenue foundries established under the Qing to meet demand during the consolidation of Manchu rule over China. The early Kangxi period was administratively turbulent — the emperor was still a minor under regency until 1669, and mint oversight was correspondingly inconsistent, producing notable variation in flan quality and casting precision across the series.
Hartill 22.140 is among the scarcer bureau issues of the type.
