| Obverse description | Round cast lead cash coin with a central square hole, bearing the four-character inscription 開元通寶 (Kaiyuan Tongbao) arranged in the traditional cross reading (top-bottom-right-left) around the perforation, rendered in clerical script (lishu). The characters are boldly cast in moderate relief against a flat inner field, with a raised inner rim surrounding the square hole and a plain outer rim defining the coin's edge. The surfaces display a characteristic blue-grey patina consistent with aged lead alloy, with slight surface granularity typical of cast lead coinage of the Five Dynasties period. |
