The Kaixi reign period lasted just three years under Emperor Ningzong of the Southern Song dynasty, cut short when the era name was changed in 1208. Cash coinage from short reign periods was often struck in limited quantity, and the compressed production window for this type is reflected in the relative scarcity of clean, well-cast examples. Hartill 17.507 represents one of the scarcer Southern Song cash varieties by reign-period duration alone.
