Jingkang was not a reign title chosen in triumph — it was assigned to Emperor Qinzong under duress, as the Jurchen Jin armies had already breached the Yellow River defenses and were closing on Kaifeng. The reign lasted barely fourteen months before the capital fell in 1127 and both Qinzong and his father Huizong were taken north as prisoners, an event the Chinese called the Jingkang Incident. Coins bearing this title were struck in the narrowest of windows, which accounts for their relative scarcity against earlier Northern Song issues.
