Obverse description Central field displays the interlaced VOC monogram (Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie cipher), with the letters V, O, and C conjoined in a decorative ligature. The monogram is rendered in bold relief on an irregular flan typical of hammered coinage. A border of small pellets or beads surrounds the central device. The overall style is characteristic of the crude but distinctive local coinage produced at Nagapatnam for small-denomination circulation.
