| 表面の説明 | Cast copper cash coin of typical Vietnamese-Chinese style, featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim. Four Chinese characters in seal script (chữ Hán) are disposed in the four cardinal positions around the central hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 皇 (top), 陳 (right), 元 (left), 寶 (bottom), forming the reign title legend 皇陳元寶. The characters are rendered in bold relief against a flat field, with the coin exhibiting an irregular flan and characteristic green-brown patination consistent with age. |

Issued under Trần Thánh Tông during one of the most pressured periods in Vietnamese dynastic history — the Mongol invasitions under Kublai Khan were imminent, with the first incursion occurring in 1258 and the second looming in 1285. That the Trần court continued minting cash coinage through this interval reflects an administrative determination to maintain normal economic function under existential military threat. Barker's attribution to this reign remains the principal reference for Trần numismatics, a series still poorly documented in Western literature.
