Reverse description Plain reverse with a central square perforation flanked by raised inner and outer rims enclosing a flat, unadorned field. A crescent mark (月痕) is visible below the square hole, serving as a mint or batch identifier consistent with Hartill type 15.6. The reverse surface shows the characteristic rough texture and minor casting irregularities typical of Five Dynasties period bronze cash coinage.

Additional information

The Later Han was the shortest-lived of the Five Dynasties, lasting barely four years before Guo Wei's coup ended the Liu family's rule in 951. Coinage production under such conditions was neither systematic nor abundant, and the Hanyuan Tongbao series reflects that instability — output was limited, and surviving examples with clearly struck reverse marks like this crescent are considerably scarcer than the plain type.
