| Popis líce | Cast brass cash coin featuring four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left. The characters 光緒通寶 (Guāngxù Tōngbǎo) occupy the four quadrants of the coin face, with 光 (Guang) at top, 緒 (Xu) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bao) at left. The legends are boldly cast in relief against a flat field, executed in the formal court calligraphic style characteristic of Qing dynasty imperial cash coinage. The broad, flat rim frames the composition, and the square central perforation is neatly formed with straight edges. |

The Manchu glyphs are rendered in a bold, formal style with a flat field and a broad rim consistent with the obverse. Minor stylistic varieties exist in the form of the characters across different branch furnaces of the mint. |
