Obverse description Cast brass cash coin with a central square hole, surrounded by a raised inner rim and plain outer rim. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around the central aperture, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 光 (Guang) above, 緒 (Xu) below, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left, together forming the reign title inscription 'Guang Xu Tong Bao' (Circulating currency of the Guangxu reign). The fields are plain and the overall style is characteristic of late Qing dynasty provincial cast coinage.
