| Obverse description | Cast brass cash coin featuring a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters rendered in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional cross reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The characters 光緒通寶 (Guāngxù Tōngbǎo) fill the four quadrants of the field, with 光 (Guang) above, 寶 (Bao) below, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 緒 (Xu) to the left. The raised characters are bold and well-defined against a flat, unadorned field. The rim is plain and slightly raised, consistent with traditional Chinese cast coinage of the Qing dynasty. |
