| Obverse description | Central square perforation flanked by four cast Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional cross-reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The character 光 (Guang) appears above the hole, 緒 (Xu) to the right, 通 (Tong) to the left, and 寶 (Bao) below, together forming the reign title legend 光緒通寶 (Guangxu Tongbao), meaning 'Circulating currency of the Guangxu reign.' The characters are bold and deeply cast in raised relief against a flat, undecorated field. No rim inscription or additional ornamental devices are present. |

The script is rendered in the standard Manchu vertical style, with strokes of moderate depth. The field is otherwise plain and unadorned, with no additional devices or border ornamentation. |
