| Obverse description | Central square perforation framed by a raised border, surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the hole: 光 (Guang) above, 緒 (Xu) below, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left, reading top-bottom, right-left in the traditional manner. The legends are boldly rendered in relief against a flat field, with no additional decorative elements. The coin's broad flat rim encircles the entire design. |
