Surrounding this central device, six large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged symmetrically across the field: 光緒 (Guangxu, the reign title) at the top, 戊申 (the cyclical year designation for 1908) flanking the centre, and 一文 (one cash/wen) at the bottom. The mintmark character specific to the issuing mint appears to the left of the central device. The overall design is unframed, with legends filling the open field in a bold, well-spaced arrangement characteristic of late Qing milled coinage. |
