Fujian's cash coinage in 1912 occupies an odd historical seam — the province was still producing traditional square-holed cast pieces in the immediate aftermath of the Qing dynasty's collapse, even as the new Republican government was actively pushing machine-struck copper cents as the modern replacement. Production at the Fuzhou mint was already in steep decline, and issues from this transitional moment were short-lived by institutional design rather than circumstance.
