Obverse description Central field displays a stylized lion passant surmounted by a royal crown, both rendered in low relief in the primitive hammered style typical of Tranquebar coinage. The crowned lion motif references the Danish royal arms and asserts colonial authority. The design is contained within a plain raised circular border. The flan is irregular in outline, characteristic of the crude lead casting technique employed at the Tranquebar mint. No legend or inscription appears on this face.
