| Obverse description | Central square hole surrounded by a plain inner rim and an outer raised border. Four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order around the central perforation, rendered in Regular script (Kaishu): 大 (dà) to the right, 宋 (sòng) to the left, 元 (yuán) above, and 寶 (bǎo) below, forming the reign inscription 大宋元寶 (Dà Sòng Yuán Bǎo). The casting is moderately detailed, with slightly worn relief typical of circulated iron cash of the Southern Song dynasty. The field between characters is plain and unadorned. |
