| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order: top to bottom and right to left. The reign title legend reads 道光通寶 (Daoguang Tongbao), meaning 'Daoguang [era] circulating treasure.' The characters are boldly cast in relief against a flat, unadorned field, with 道 (Dao) at top, 光 (Guang) at right, 寶 (Bao) at bottom, and 通 (Tong) at left. The coin exhibits the typical plain rim and undecorated border characteristic of Qing dynasty cast cash coinage. |
