| 正面描述 | Cast copper cash coin bearing four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu), arranged around a central square perforation and read clockwise. The four-character reign title legend 大治元寶 (Đại Trị Nguyên Bảo) is disposed in the conventional quadrant format, with one character positioned at each cardinal point relative to the square hole. The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief within the coin's flat field, framed by an inner rim bordering the central perforation and an outer raised rim defining the coin's circumference. The overall style is consistent with Vietnamese Trần dynasty cast coinage of the mid-fourteenth century, exhibiting the characteristic broad, slightly irregular casting typical of the period. The coin displays an attractive patina of green and brown cuprite encrustation consistent with extended burial or circulation. |

Issued under Trần Dụ Tông, the fourth emperor of the Trần dynasty to bear that temple name, the Đại Trị reign period saw Vietnam under mounting pressure from Cham incursions to the south. Trần Dụ Tông's administration is generally remembered as weak — he was known for neglecting state affairs — and the coinage of this period reflects a dynasty already in slow decline.
The clockwise reading orientation distinguishes this variety from the more common counterclockwise examples catalogued by Hartill, placing it as the Toda#23 variant. Cast rather than struck, as all Vietnamese cash of this period were.
