| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse of this southern-type Chongzhen Tongbao replicates the obverse legend in full, displaying the same four characters 崇禎通寶 arranged around the central square hole in the identical cross-reading format. This distinctive repetition of the inscription on both sides is the defining characteristic of the southern type variety, catalogued under Hartill 20.352. The characters are cast in regular script with a similar weight and style to the obverse, flanked by raised inner and outer rims. The plain field shows typical casting texture consistent with multiple southern Ming mints active during the late Chongzhen reign period (circa 1630–1644). |
