| Obverse description | Cast round coin with a central square hole, characteristic of Chinese cash coinage. Four Chinese characters in regular script (楷書) arranged in cruciform order reading top, bottom, right, left around the central perforation: 崇 (top), 禎 (bottom), 通 (right), 寶 (left), forming the reign title and currency designation 崇禎通寶. The characters are set within a plain inner rim and an outer raised border, with flat fields showing the typical surface texture of a cast bronze coin. |
